SELF-PRODUCTION
GUIDELINES
BODY&SOLD: National Campaign
Stage a reading and join us in raising awareness about
sex trafficking and child abuse in the U.S.
GUIDELINES AND PERFORMANCE RIGHTS INFORMATION:
BODY&SOLD is a powerful documentary play that draws attention
to the sex trafficking of American children and teens.
Deborah Lake Fortson’s compelling script gives voices to 8
teens and inspires provocative discussion in communities
of all types.
TEMPEST offers BODY&SOLD as
a tool to promote community dialogue and spark cultural
change. While our mission is centered on prevention through
broad exposure to the issues addressed, the play is also
a fundraising venture and we ask that you adhere to our
minimal restrictions to ensure the successful continuation
of our National Campaign. Every performance is then able
to raise money to fund local groups that work to end
violence against women and teens.
Here are the terms and conditions that apply
to the BODY&SOLD Project:
- BODY&SOLD may
in NO way be presented or produced without explicit permission
from the Director of the National Campaign. This restriction
applies to all individuals, cities, community theater
groups or other organizations.
The performance and production rights to BODY & SOLD are available
for a cost of $150.
- The BODY&SOLD Project
exists to prevent and end sexual trafficking in the United
States through broad exposure to information, using BODY&SOLD as
its main vehicle. By producing a reading or performance
of this play, you agree that this is a valid and significant
social problem and you accept the responsibility of focusing
attention on it.
- Information about TEMPEST and the BODY&SOLD Project
must be presented in some form at all productions. Anyone
found presenting the play without association with Deborah
Lake Fortson, TEMPEST, and the BODY&SOLD Project
will be asked to cancel all performances and will not
receive permission to participate in the future.
- You MUST
sell tickets to your production of BODY&SOLD.
Admission via suggested contribution or donations is
not allowed without also selling tickets. We are trying
to raise awareness and money to effect cultural change
and strengthen programs and prevention efforts for teens
at risk.
- We request that you donate 10% of the proceeds from
your donations and ticket sales to the BODY&SOLD Project. This
enables TEMPEST to reach out to organizations helping
teens at risk across the country and ensure the continued
propagation of readings and community conversation. TEMPEST
is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Donations to TEMPEST
from your box-office proceeds are fully tax-deductible.
The fundraising mission of this project is
to raise funds for community institutions that help teens at risk. The
remaining 90% of your proceeds must go to one or more
organizations or programs in your community or surrounding
area whose work is geared specifically towards helping
women and teens who have experienced prostitution, or
that work with teens at risk. TEMPEST can help you identify
these groups.
