HOST A READING
- FULL STAGED READING:
A full staged reading is a production with lighting,
music and simple costumes. The actors hold scripts on stage.
Some scenes are memorized and staged. For other scenes, the
actors sit on chairs with some planned movement as they interact.
Paid staff includes a musician, stage manager, production/tour
manager, director, and ten actors. A staged reading can be produced
in a theater or a variety of venues such as a lecture hall,
church hall, function room, large classroom. The reading runs
about 80 minutes and is followed by an interactive discussion
with the audience. This discussion can involve youth speaking,
community brainstorming, strategy development for change --
or whatever other topic your group wants to address that is
evoked by the stories from the play.
PRICE RANGE: $5000-$8000, depending
on venue, distance from Boston and specifics of the presentation.
Also see “Other
Finances”.
- MINI-READING/PRESENTATION:
Presentation of 2-4 scenes. Actors hold their scripts
and have some staged interactions. Paid staff
includes production/tour manager,
director, and 3-6 actors. The reading
can run from 10 to 25 minutes and
it can be produced in almost any
venue; this option integrates easily
into a classroom curriculum or other
educational programming. We can also
integrate these scenes into an hour-long
presentation about the BODY&SOLD Project and the issue of teen trafficking
in the US. Please contact us to discuss
other possible formats.
PRICE RANGE: $500-$2,500. Also see “Other
Finances”.
- STAGED READING PRODUCED BY THE HOST GROUP:
In this option, you recruit actors in your area,
find a venue, and organize the audience. You can
partner with a theater who can help
find actors and a director, or we
can send a Tempest Company member
to direct the reading with actors
you recruit. It will take six or
seven rehearsals to develop a staged reading.
USING A TEMPEST DIRECTOR: $2,500
plus travel costs, and housing, if beyond the Boston
area.
